The Conservative government has stunned women's advocates with a decision to close three-quarters of the regional offices of Status of Women Canada.Bev Oda: What have you got to say for your sorry self?!
Cabinet minister Bev Oda says 12 of the 16 offices will be shut by April 1.
Oda says the regional offices do little to serve women directly and money can be better spent by streamlining services.Minna (Liberal) & Mathyssen (NDP) react:
Liberal MP Maria Minna calls the move "reprehensible." She says women still have a long way to go to reach equality with men and the government should be doing more, not less.My first reaction? April 1st, though. Interesting date. We can work with that, yes? Maybe?
We already knew they were fools, after all.
"Hell" is right. So upsetting. And so completely overshadowed by the pomperie of the "L" convention etc. The closing of SWC offices was a distant 2nd story on the National tonight.
"Hell" is other people's ideologies, eh?

Yes, April 1 is rather a propos. I get sick to my stomach thinking of how much more damage they can do to us all by Spring :(
